SiteGround Hosting Review in India Pros & Cons

The hosting service offered by SiteGround is among the most reputable in the world. But is it really worth considering? This is what we will try to show you throughout our 2022 review regarding SiteGround. Our teams were able to sift through all aspects of this host: performance, customer service, administration interface, and more.

SiteGround Hosting? What you need to know

The company behind SiteGround was founded in 2004 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

By quickly browsing the presentation page of its official website, we could see that the company has no less than 500 employees in its offices around the world (Bulgaria, Spain, London, and the United States).

And on the customer side, the only information we could find was the number of domains managed: 2,000,000.

SiteGround offers, like many other hosts, a domain name registration and purchase service. However, there is no corporate email service.

With the presentations being made, we will now be able to get to the heart of the subject of our review and test of SiteGround. To do this, we offer you to discover the strengths and weaknesses of the host:

Its strengths:

  • Simplicity of offers
  • Free expert help with the transfer of accommodation
  • 30 days of guaranteed satisfied or refunded

  • No domain name offered
  • A little disappointing performance compared to our expectations
  • Website/Customer Support in English only
  • Low allocated disk space

Performance: availability, loading and speed

If you’ve never had the opportunity to read one of our web host tests, we pay close attention to the performance and speeds offered.

To do this, our team subscribes to one of the hosting offers (shared hosting the case of our SiteGround opinion) and tests at length the loading times, the stability of the site, etc.

What about it? In terms of availability, we can confirm that the uptime announced by SiteGround is correct. We found the availability of about 99.8%.

Those who do not know what this number represents the availability rate of accommodation over a full year. The raised value may seem good, but in reality,y it is not really the case.

It is equivalent to a Type 2 datacenter (level 4 was the best level). To give you an idea, an availability rate equal to 99.8% corresponds to your website’s unavailability for almost one day per year. Att least! It’s up to you to decide whether this is acceptable to you or not.

As for the velocity of SiteGround accommodations, our opinion is also more than mixed. We offer you to discover the results of the surveys we were able to carry out with our test platform on GTMetrix and Pingdom:

GTMetrix and Pingdom are two sites that can assess the speed of your website.

And the results are clearly unappealing: the loading time is disappointing. On average, our site was almost a second slower to load than with a host like Hostinger or PlanetHoster.

You will therefore understand that our opinion regarding SiteGround’s performance is disappointing.

SiteGround’s administration interface test

To begin this section of our review of SiteGround, we want to make two important things clear:

  • all customer/administration interfaces are in English
  • the host no longer uses cPanel

Now that we’ve done this focus, we’ll be able to give you our feelings about the interface that SiteGround has set up. Because ye,s it evolved recently to abandon panel definitively (because deemed too limited, which we regret but understand). The proposed administration interface is a real success. It is simple, ergonomic while being complete features offered. For example, you’ll find advanced management of your FTP, backups, databases, etc.

Suffice to say that it will suit both a beginner and a seasoned person who needs access to more technical options.

Proof of this is with the screenshot below; it is straightforward to create a new website on WordPress, WooCommerce, and Weebly.

If you want to migrate your existing website to SiteGround, the process will also be straightforward. With just a few clicks, you can make this migration.

As detailed in the section listing the strengths of SiteGround, the host will also allow you to carry out this process with one of their experts.

As you will have understood, the opinion we have on SiteGround’s administration interface is excellent. Unlike the performance component, we have nothing to blame the host.

Safety and protection

To en visitors safety tours to your site, or your accommodation, SiteGround puts several things in place.

First of all, it is good that you know that an SSL certificate will be offered with each accommodation. This will allow you to protect visitors to your site properly.

On the accommodation side, SiteGroun,d of course, has a firewall that is constantly updated to add new rules. The aim is to ensure the integrity of all hosted sites. Alsoa backup of your hosting space is carried out every day. This will allow you to restore data when needed quickly (false manipulation, malicious attack).

Is an extra layer of security in place to protect my customer space? Yes, absolutely. SiteGround offers a dual authentication feature that will allow you to improve the security of your account.

You’ll have to go to your personal space to set it up.

Our review of the SiteGround host’s customer support

If you’re wondering what SiteGround’s customer support is worth, you couldn’t have fallen.

After testing the host for many months, we are in the best position to give you our feelings.

The first thing to know is that SiteGround customer support is available through:

  • live chat (both in pre-sales and for technical support)
  • ticket system
  • telephone.

It’s generally excellent! But keep in mind that all communications will have to be done in English. If this is a hindrance for you, go instead to a French-speaking host with good customer support.

Even though we found SiteGround’s customer support rather responsive and, above all, competent, we cannot have a positive opinion about it.

Indeed, not offering customer support in French is clearly a disadvantage.

One last point, however: you will obtain 24/7 assistance through the 3 contact methods available.

Types of accommodation and pricing

So far, you’ve seen that our review of SiteGround is rather mixed. Especially about the performance of their accommodations.

Nevertheless, we will work on presenting the various proposed plans so that you can see for yourself the current rates.

Shared accommodation

The shared accommodation offered by SiteGround is available in 3 variations. Here’s the detail:

  • StartUp: €5.99/month
  • GrowBig: €9.99/month
  • GoGeek: €13.99/month, we find that the value for money is not there. What is proposed from a technical point of view seems to us to be too limited.

And it is not the “Performances” part of our SiteGround review that will contradict this thought. Especially since even for €13.99/month (with the GoGeek subscription), you won’t be entitled to a free domain name.

Don’t hesitate to visit the host’s official website to make your own opinion on its shared accommodation. For us, it’s all seen; it’s better to avoid it and turn to better-shared accommodations.

To whom this plan is addressed: SiteGround’s shared hosting is its number one offer. Thanks to 3 variants, it proves to be suitable for beginners and people with more needs.

WordPress Accommodation

SiteGround’s WordPress offer is technically identical to the shared offer.

The only difference is that you will have access to an automatic assistant that will allow you to quickly and install WordPress on your hosting. Also, you will have access to a free migration tool (as stipulated above in our SiteGround review).

Performance aside, don’t expect miracles. You’ll get the same results as with shared hosting.

We regret the fact that no information is given regarding the technical specificities of this plan. How many CPUs are allocated? How much RAM?!

The only information we have at this level is the disk space (which is very small – from 10GB) and a maximum number of visitors (from 10,000).

Who’s talking to this plan: The WordPress plan is for people who want to create a WordPress website. It’s as simple as that! If you prefer to use another CMS, you will have to go to the shared hosting, which is very similar.

WooCommerce Accommodation

WooCommerce accommodation also comes in 3 variations. These are the same as for shared hosting and WordPress:

  • StartUp: €5.99/month
  • GrowBig: €9.99/month
  • GoGeek: €13.99/month

We’re not going to re-ignore the opinion we have on SiteGround’s performance, but it’s clearly mediocre.

In the worst-case scenario, if you still want to try to create an online sales site via SiteGround, you can always rely on a satisfied or refunded 30-day warranty. Since it’s unconditional, you don’t have much to lose.

Who is aimed at this plan: just like WordPress hosting, the WooCommerce offer will only be suitable for those who want to create an E-Commerce site via WooCommerce. In terms of performance, with 3 separate solutions, this plan will meet the needs of creating a first online store or an already well-developed sales site.

Cloud Accommodation

In our eyes, this offer of SiteGround is far from the best cloud accommodations. What for? Well, the reasons are many, but the disappointing value for money is predominant.

As you can see from the screenshot below, the rates are clearly aimed at a certain customer type: professionals. Indeed, individuals who can put more than 60 euros per month in cloud hosting are rare.

And the worst part is that you won’t even get your money’s worth for such a price. We found that the minimum configuration was not interesting than the PlanetHoster host (the latter offers more CPUs, RAM and disk space).

In short, we will not be able to recommend this type of plan, especially since you will only be entitled to a 14-day satisfied or refunded guarantee this time (compared to 30 in normal times). This will prevent you from testing its cloud hosting at length.

As the Bulgarian host suggests, its Cloud hosting offers are aimed exclusively at a professional audience to whom this plan is aimed. With an entrance fee of 64.00 euros per month, we had no real doubt about the subject.

More information about SiteGround

Can you find our review on SiteGround complete? If that’s the case, all the better, but we’re not done with our analysis of the host.

Indeed, we still have several points to deal with to give you the complete overview possible.

The free domain name at SiteGround: does it exist?

To begin this section of our SiteGround review, we would like to remind you that the Bulgarian host will offer no domain name. This is not an end in itself, but we regret that such a thing is not proposed.

This saves 15 to 20 euros per year. If you feel the same way as us, you can turn to PlanetHoster (this host offers a free domain name for life with its accommodation).

Does SiteGround offer free web hosting?

We will go straight to the point: no, SiteGround does not offer free web hosting.

But we don’t hold it against him at all for the simple reason that free accommodation remains very limited and unreliable if you want to create a serious website.

It doesn’t scare you, and you want to start with free accommodation at all costs? In this case, take a look at our comparison of the best free hosts.

Buying a domain name

It is not easy to find the page related to the purchase and registration of a domain name on the SiteGround site as long as the option exists.

A lot of different extensions are on offer. On the other hand, we would like to point out that the prices charged are far from the most attractive.

Here is a quick price comparison with two other reputable hosts in the field:

  • .in: 10$ per year compared to 7.99 at Hostinger
  • .com: €13.95 per year compared to €7.99 at Hostinger
  • .net: €14.95 per year compared to €11.99 at Hostinger

As you can see, the comparison is really unappealing. Prices are much higher at SiteGround. That’s why we advise you to look elsewhere to register a domain name.

30-day satisfied or refunded warranty

You could see it during the presentation of the various accommodation offers offered by SiteGround: the host offers a satisfied or refunded guarantee of 30 days.

It will allow you to test any accommodation without commitment. In case of disappointment, you can demand a full refund.

The only condition for all this is that you will have to do it before the end of this 30-day period (it starts on the date of your subscription).

Once the 30 days have passed, SiteGround obviously reserves the right to refuse your refund request what we can understand.

So could you not do it at the last moment?.

Where are SiteGround’s data centres located?

As we stated in the introduction to our SiteGround review, the host comes from Bulgaria. However, it does not have data centres there.

SiteGround has data centres in other countries, including:

  • Netherlands (Ems)
  • Germany (Francfort)
  • United Kingdom (London)
  • United States (Iowa)
  • Singapore
  • Australia (Sidney).

As you may have noticed, SiteGround does not have a data centre in France, which is very unfortunate. It is not the most optimal if you are targeting a French clientele for sure.

However, you can always rely on its scenesters in Germany or London. This somewhat offsets the negative opinion we have on the subject.

ConclusiOur our review of SiteGround

It is already time for us to move on to the conclusion of our 2022 review for SiteGround.

If you have read our analysis carefully, you may have seen that our feelings about the performance offered are far from good.

And to top it all off, customer support and all administration interfaces are in English. This leads us not to recommend this web host.

In our opinion, there are much better French-speaking options, which justifies the non-consideration of SiteGround. Now, we take away in no way the simplicity of use offered by this provider, as well as the responsiveness of its customer support.

It’s up to you to assess your needs and especially the level of your expectations customer support/performance/administration interface.

What do you think about SiteGround? If you are already a customer at the host, don’t hesitate to share your personal feelings.
