By the summer, many discover that they have gained extra pounds, and begin to look for options, how you can lose weight. Alas, not all traditional methods are effective. “KP” tried to debunk the main myths about weight loss.

The extra pounds overtook many. We have to lose weight. But there are many misconceptions about what contributes to weight gain. Let’s work with our regular¬†expert, nutritionist Lyudmila Denisenko,to analyze what foods and habits actually help to become easier and which do not.

Myths About Losing Weight

1. Celery, grapefruit, and cabbage burn fat

In fact, there are no products that burn fat. Some may increase the metabolic rate, but only for a short period of time. And are not the cause of weight loss.

You’re slimmer with green tea.

It’s not that. But tea contains a lot of polyphenols – substances that neutralize cholesterol dangerous for the arteries.

Porridge is full

Krupa is really a source of carbohydrates. But those who eat more slow carbohydrates – whole-grain cereals containing large amounts of fiber – lose weight and gain it more slowly. An interesting principle of “swings” is noticed: if you combine carbohydrates and fats, the body mass index increases, but if you do not combine carbohydrates with fat, the index, on the contrary, decreases. Therefore, choose what you prefer – a keto diet with a lot of fat or a diet with a lot of fiber from cereals.

To beat your appetite, you have to eat an apple

untruth. Apples and other fruits do not suppress appetite, on the contrary – inflame.

Breadcrumbs don’t get fat as fast as bread.

The allegation is not true. The breadcrumbs are more high-calorie, they contain more fat than in bread.

Protein diets are the most effective.

I don’t think so. Studies have shown that full people are better at losing weight on low-carb diets, but the effect does not last long. Soon they start to gain kilos again.

Best for Weight Loss – Fasting

Lack of food can cause fatigue and dizziness. It’s dangerous to starve. And holding back all day, you risk eating three times more in the evening.

White bread is more caloric than bran bread.

That’s not true. 100 grams of loaf give the same calories as 100 grams of chopped bread. Another thing is that bread with bran gives a lot of fiber and magnesium, which promotes good digestion.

The secret to slimness – in salads

This is only partly true: the lettuce leaves themselves contain almost no calories. But! In their purest form, they are not usually used. And most salad sauces contain a lot of fat: a tablespoon – about 80 calories. As a result, salad with a gas station will not contribute to weight loss.

After eating, it’s good to chew gum.

The gum does refresh your breath, but it can hardly be called a means of oral hygiene. Scientific evidence on the positive effect of chewing gum on the condition of teeth relates only to a small range of products with fluoride. Gum containing sugar, the same candy – in terms of caloric content and destructive effects on tooth enamel. And chewing gum can damage the tissues of the periodontist. In fact, chewing is recommended no more than three times a day for three minutes. If you keep the gum in your mouth longer, there is an excessive release of gastric juice. And if the food does not enter the stomach, it can harm its mucous.
