After becoming the ideal accomplice in the kitchen, the dishwasher stands as the saver of our precious time and commit to the most precious of our wealth: health; poses the ever-new challenge of how to maintain and clean a dishwasher, quickly, economically, safely and in real.
There are different models and dishwasher manufacturers that year after year competes to offer you the best washing technology for your crockery. Among those that stand out, we can know Bosch, Balay, Siemens, LG, Electrolux, Whirlpool, Miele, among others.
Its quiet service value is incalculable, both in water savings and in detergents, time and biosecurity.
The Covid-19 or coronavirus experience has renewed the need to “sterilize everything” as we use, frequently. Unless you can withstand water at temperatures between 45 and 75 degrees to hand scrub the dishes, it is better to entrust your toilet to this jewel of washing engineering and biological safety.
And what about water saving, because at least 7.5 litres could pour into your manual dishwasher for every minute, while one of the last dishwashers would need only 9.5 litres, in full cycles… saving size! Unless you are fast enough to wash all services in 60 seconds.
Love must always be reciprocated. If your dishwasher does so much for you and frees you up time for other more important tasks than scrubbing the crockery, the least you can do while driving, lees, browsing, working in your office or you’re in the gym, it’s planning a little darling that washes the one you always wash… to thoroughly clean your dishwasher.
To do this, in Hermanos Pérez appliances, dishwasher experts give you the following tips on how to clean and maintain a dishwasher.
5 steps of how to maintain and clean a dishwasher
Eliminate food scraps
Cutlery, glasses, plates and utensils will only come out clean if your dishwasher is clean. Be sure, then, to remove the food scraps from the dishes and check that there are none in the dishwasher, as it would affect the washing and cause bad odours.
Give fresh air to the dishwasher.
Whenever you can, at the end of the washing cycle, open the doors so that the steam is removed, so they will finish drying faster, and you will prevent the flowering of mould in rubbers and grooves.
Clean the swivel arms and filter
Rotating arms are the dirtiest elements and can obviously clog water outlets by their micro-sprinklers, reducing their efficiency. According to the instructions that each manufacturer includes in their user and maintenance manuals, you should clean them regularly. Remember that you can always search for it on the web if you don’t have it handy.
Besides, slide the last bottom basket until it comes out completely, so you can comfortably remove the filter located on the dishwasher floor.
It is almost always circular and is close to rotating water sprinklers. Release it by turning it anti-clockwise so you can remove it by gently throwing it away. Wash it outside with hot water if possible and once clean, reinstall it. Don’t forget to secure it with a twist.
Older dishwasher models instead of filter use a shredder, and in that case, it does not need to be removed, as it does not accumulate debris. Just clean your mouth.
Look at the water’s hardness in your neighbourhood; if it’s harder, they have more lime and obstructive tartar can be higher.
Maintain salt and shine level
Never forget to check the salt level of your dishwasher, it is necessary to decalcify the water.
Likewise, you must monitor the brightener, which is another essential product to feed the dishwasher. It optimizes the use of hot water to reach all corners and surfaces while avoiding stains and optimizing drying.
Thoroughly clean the dishwasher
At least once a month, we recommend that you thoroughly clean the dishwasher. You can use products specifically formulated for this purpose with degreasing power, odour inhibitor and tartar remover.
Opt for products of reliable brands, as far as possible, recommended by the manufacturer, which will ensure the preservation of the dishwasher and its effective cleaning.
You can also resort to greener methods such as Baking soda and vinegar, in which case you will place a cup (240 ml) with vinegar in the central tray and activate a cycle that includes hot water the mould will be removed. Afterwards, you will spread at least one cup of baking soda, let it rest for several hours and then activate a short cycle of cleaning with hot water.
If your dishwasher is white and yellow with a mixture of hot water and baking soda rub it. You’ll really notice the renovation.
Whatever the products used, with the help of a small brush, smeared with a soapy solution and/or baking soda and vinegar, rub on visibly dirty sites and grooves. Don’t forget door rails and hinges.
If available, turn on the preset disinfection cycle on your dishwasher dashboard.
