HOW TO DETERMINE THE TYPE OF FACIAL SKIN
- Clean the skin with the usual means of washing the moderate force of exposure (soft cleansing gel or foam).
- Gently wet the skin with a cloth napkin or towel and refrain from using any care products.
- After about an hour, attach a thin paper napkin to your face and gently press it in the area of the T-zone, cheeks, and chin.
- Take a minute to evaluate the results:
(a) There are no traces of skin fat on the napkin – the skin is dry.
b) Light marks are noticeable, evenly distributed throughout the surface of the napkin – the skin is normal.
c) There are traces, but they are visible only in the T-zone – the skin is combined.
d) Clear, visually obvious fat marks throughout the napkin area – the skin is oily.
FACE TYPE TEST
How else can you find out what your skin is if it is not possible to make samples with a napkin at the moment? There is also a more “theoretical” test, which does not require immediate action – only an objective assessment of the condition of the skin of the face.
You need to answer our questions and write down or remember the prevailing type of letters in the answers. It will help you understand what type of skin your face is.

B. There are inflammations and comedones – usually in the T-zone.
C. In general, I wouldn’t call my skin trouble-free – but there are no black dots and extended pores.

- Most A-responses are normal skin type
- B – combined skin type
- C – dry skin type
- D is an oily skin type
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF SKIN?
Fortunately, experts have long given an unambiguous answer to the question “How many skin types exist?” – four. It is normal skin, dry, oily, and combined. Some beauticians also include sensitive skin in this classification- but this is not entirely correct. Sensitive (i.e., acutely reacting to external factors) can be the skin of any type – rather a temporary characteristic.
Now that you know how to determine the type of skin at home, we will tell you how to choose the right cosmetics for each type.
This type of skin tends to lack (insufficient replenishment) of lipids to help prevent the evaporation of moisture from the skin layers. This results in the skin looking thin, “parchment,” or “porcelain” (depending on the skin tone) as if dehydrated. It is essential to choose dry skin nourishing and deeply moisturizing products that have the property to “seal” and hold moisture inside cells for a long time.
Among VICHY products, there are entire series, which are produced separately for dry, and separately for normal/combined skin. Choosing cosmetics to solve certain problems, take those containing the label “for dry skin” – they are most adapted to the features of this type of skin and its protection.
A good example is the Aqualia Thermal moisturizer, which contains a special “isotonic cocktail” – a powerful combination of ingredients that deeply nourishes and hydrates the skin from the inside helps to preserve moisture and skin regeneration.
FATTY AND PROBLEM SKIN
Alas, the skin, prone to fatness and inflammation, is usually seen immediately. Strong brilliance, extended pores, black dot-comedians… Such skin needs regular deep cleansing and (which many do not know) constant hydration, which helps to contain excess production of sebum.
A good example number 1 is the Normaderm line from VICHY, which includes carefully selected acids to eliminate the imperfections of the problem skin, antioxidants for the restoration, alignment, and protection of the skin, as well as moisturizing and soft cleansing components that protect the skin from excessive drying.
A good example number 2 is the VICHY clay cleansing mask, which contains two types of clay for deep pore cleansing and allantoin and aloe vera to restore water balance and properly hydrate the skin.
Such skin can simultaneously give unwanted shine and inflammation in the T-zone and at the same time peel on the cheeks or temples. Your task: to choose cosmetics for the combined skin and at its high sensitivity – and even look for the best products for each specific area of the face.
It should be taken into account that you can approach as special products for the combined skin, and quite universal – if they solve your problems and, of course, do not cause undesirable reactions on some individual areas of the face.
A good example is the daily MINERAL 89 serum gel for sensitive skin (including combined) and prone to aggressive external influences. The high concentration of hyaluronic acid combined with VICHY thermal water helps to strengthen and tonic the skin and activate and enhance its own protective functions.
The owners of normal skin types can only be congratulated – they do not have any specific problems. Still, normal skin can also suffer from dehydration, early aging, or the aggressive influence of the external environment.
Therefore, even in the absence of any complaints, try to buy high-quality cosmetics developed under the supervision of beauticians and dermatologists. Pay special attention to the protection of skin aging, deep hydration, moisture levels, and protection against UV rays.
A good example number 1 is the daily dose from the Slow Age line, which aims to protect against the first signs of aging. It contains antioxidants, probiotics, caffeine, and the SPF 25 (cream) protection factor, which help counteract the external environment’s negative effects, actively tone the skin, and strengthen its protective barrier.
A good example number 2 is the Liftactiv Supreme line, which directly affects the resource of youthful skin. Products from this line stimulate the skin’s production of its own collagen and elastin, help to increase the tone and density of the skin, activate its natural protective barriers.
So now you know how to understand what type of skin you have faced, know how to identify it at home, and understand how to choose cosmetics depending on the type and needs of the skin. We hope that this knowledge will help your skin always get the best and shine with freshness and beauty!
